The School of Nursing currently has an enrollment of approximately 1000 pre-nursing and 250 nursing students in its program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This program prepares students to take the RN licensure exam and to qualify for future leadership positions in the health field. Students are required to take 60 credits of general education and pre-nursing courses and apply for to enter the nursing program once these courses are completed. Students begin the program in September, January or May; it is 4 semesters fulltime including summers The school enrolls 48-56 students three times a year in this curriculum.

We have recently developed an online program in collaboration with Nevada State College for those who already hold their RN license, but do not have a BS degree in Nursing. Students apply to this program and earn their BSN at Nevada State College; two of the required courses are offered by UNLV. If students wish to pursue an MS in Nursing, they may opt to substitute two graduate level courses for those offered by UNLV. For more information, see Nevada State College School of Nursing.

UNLV also offers a Masters of Science degree in Nursing. There are currently three tracks available in this web-based program, the Family Nurse Practitioner Track, the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Track, and the Nurse Educator Track. We also offer post-masters certificates in these areas. Family Nurse Practitioners provide primary care for individuals across the lifespan and many provide care to the indigent and uninsured populations. Pediatric Nurse Practitioners provide primary care for infants, children, and adolescents. The Nurse Educator program prepares nursing students to teach nursing. This provides more qualified faculty so that all of the area nursing schools may increase their enrollment. There are currently about 100 students enrolled in the Masters program.

In Fall 2005 we admitted its first class of students in the PhD program focused on Nursing Education. This program will help meet the need for more highly qualified faculty in Nevada and the surrounding states. If you are considering a position as a nurse educator and researcher, this web-based program may be just what you are looking for.

UNLV's School of nursing received full re-accreditation through the year 2010 from the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC), the longest established accrediting body of nursing education programs in the country. It is the maximum period awarded by the NLNAC.

I encourage you to explore our website to find out more about all of these programs and to visit us when you are in the Las Vegas area.

Sincerely,
