HRSA Grant: ENHANCING QUALITY & ACCESS IN AN ONLINE PhD NURSING PROGRAM

FUNDING

Funded by HRSA, through the Advanced Education Nursing Program, UNLV was awarded a $710,000 grant for a three-year period from 7/1/07 - 6/30/10

GOAL

It is a goal of the grant to fund an accelerated nursing doctoral program through master's dgree nursing programs at both UNLV and UNR. UNLV offers the only nursing PhD program in Nevada. This program will allow students pursuing their master's degrees in nursing at UNLV or UNR to take at least four PhD level courses which will count toward UNLV's doctoral program. The accelerated program will take nine to twelve months off of the completion time of UNLV's doctoral program. The lack of nursing faculty limits the ability to address the nursing shortage which is being experienced nationally. This grant will help address Nevada's nurse educator shortage.
