RN to BSN Pathway at NSC with potential accelerated MSN coursework from UNLV
This program is for licensed registered nurses who have graduated from associate degree or diploma nursing programs. The BSN curriculum at NSC builds upon previous nursing and liberal arts course work. The program is designed to support educational mobility and to strengthen community health and leadership abilities of registered nurses.
For those students who wish to pursue an MSN from UNLV, an accelerated coursework option is available through the RN to BSN program at NSC. Up to 9 credits of graduate course work may be completed from UNLV School of Nursing. These courses will count as undergraduate credit at NSC for the BSN degree.

The following courses are offered by UNLV for the RN to BSN program in this collaborative arrangement. The student has a choice between the undergraduate nursing courses: Nurs 410, 426, and a nursing elective at either NSC or UNLV OR the graduate nursing courses: Nurs 703, 704, and 706.
Nurs 410 Physical Assessment (3 credits) [Fall Semester only]
Skills for obtaining an accurate health history and physical assessment for adults and children, including the ability to differentiate between the norm and variations requiring referral. Prerequisites Nurs 408 or concurrent
Nurs 426 Pathophysiological Processes in Secondary Prevention
(3 credits) [Spring Semester only]
Discusses the complex health pattern variations across the adult life span, in an acute care environment. Outcomes of therapeutic nursing interventions of diverse client systems emphasized Prerequisite: Nurs 410
The following courses are offered by UNLV for the RN to BSN with accelerated graduate study in this collaborative arrangement.
Nurs 703 Advanced Physical Assessment (3 credits)
Focuses on expanding the skills necessary to do a comprehensive physical assessment. Emphasis on developing advanced techniques in history taking and physical examination to prepare the student for clinical course as a nurse practitioner. Correlation of assessment finding with pathophysiological processes to develop differential diagnosis presented. Prerequisite: Permission from MSN Coordinator
Nurs 704 Pathophysiology for Advanced Nursing Practice (3 credits)
Emphasis on physiologic mechanisms of disease from a cellular perspective. Cellular pathophysiology of disease as it translates into clinical signs and symptoms manifested by the patient. Physiology of growth and development and the physiology of aging as they contrast with pathophyiologic mechanism of disease. Prerequisite: Permission from MSN Coordinator
Nurs 706 Nursing Theory and Research Process (3 credits/elective)
Examines nursing theories/models and their role in practice research and education. Emphasizes the structure, building and t4esting of nursing knowledge. Discussion of the research process. Prerequisites: Permission from MSN Coordinator
