  1. Student contacts the School of Nursing
  2. Send to SON by March 1:
    • One (1) set of official transcripts to UNLV Graduate College
    • Evidence of successful completion of one graduate level course in statistics and one graduate level course in research
    • Personal/professional goal statement
    • Resume/CV
    • Three (3) letters of reference
    • Two (2) samples of written work
    • Official GRE score report (taken within last 5 years)
    • Copy of current RN License
  3. Applicants are required to have:   

    • Earned master’s degree in nursing from an accredited program. International applicants must demonstrate proof of equivalent education and degree. Persons with a master’s degree in a health related discipline from an accredited institution are eligible for admission but must meet following requirements: (a) an earned bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited program and (b) completion of UNLV MSN core courses: NURS 705, NURS 706, NURS 707, and NURS 713.
    • Minimum GPA of 3.5 (4.0 = A) in a nursing or health related master’s program.
  4. SON PhD Admission Committee reviews applications and selects candidates for interview.
  5. SON PhD Admission Committee interviews selected applicants.
  6. PhD Coordinator notifies UNLV Graduate College of admission.
  7. UNLV Graduate College notifies accepted applicants.
  8. SON contacts incoming PhD students by June 1.
  9. Student sends to SON by August 1: Proof of Hepatitis B Vaccination, Varicella, MMR, Tetanus Diphtheria (TD), and 2 step TB screen, as well as the following:
    • A copy of your health insurance card.
    • A copy of your RN malpractice insurance.
    • A copy of your current RN license (Students planning to do their practicum in Nevada must obtain a Nevada State RN license).
    • A current basic life support card (CPR card).
    • A physical exam
    • A background check is necessary for all students in this program.
    • A current drug screen
