Q: Is there a waiting list for admission?
A: No, there is no waiting list. Admissions are competitive each semester. Students need to re-apply each semester until acceptance.

Q: Can I transfer courses to a UNLV Nursing degree?
A: Yes, Some courses are transferable and must be reviewed by the UNLV Office of Admissions and then the pre Nursing advisor. Here are some helpful links for transferring courses to UNLV

Q: Can students from other Nursing programs transfer to UNLV?
A: Yes, but this must be approved by the pre Nursing advisor. A letter of good standing is required from the student's previous Nursing Program.

Q: How long is the undergraduate Nursing program to complete?
A: It takes at least 4 years depending on the number of credits per semester a student completes.

Q: How Do I apply?
A: Students are admitted in the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. Students interested in the baccalaureate program apply through the Office of Admissions and signify on the university application form "School of Nursing, Pre-Nursing Major." Once the student is admitted, the Office of Admissions will send the student's record to the School of Nursing and a member of the School of Nursing will serve as the student's advisor.

Q: Can I send you my transcripts for evaluation?
A: No. The Office of Admissions must evaluate all transcripts. The Nursing School does not pre-evaluate transcripts.

Q: How do I change my Major?
A: Please drop by the Division of Health Science Advising Center located in BHS 100 (annex portion on the lower level). We will be happy to help you. We have all the information on how to proceed with your change in Major.

Q: I'd like to know if you offer associate degree for LP nursing?
A: No

Q: How do I make arrangements to meet with admissions counselors or a nursing advisor?
A: Students have to be officially admitted to UNLV and all transcripts evaluated by the Admissions Office prior to setting up an advisement appointment with a Pre-Nursing advisor. Upon admission to UNLV you may call the Health Sciences Advising Center at (702) 895-5448, or email healthsciencesadvisingcenter@unlv.edu to set up an advising appointment.

Q: How do I find out about the status of my admission to the Nursing Program?
A: Students eligible for admission in the upcoming semester will be contacted via letter from the School of Nursing.

Q: Do you have to take the SAT or the ACTs?
A: You do not have to take the SAT or ACT. You can take an ACT Residual Exam or Math 095 and ENG 098, which are pre-requisite classes for Math 120 and ENG 101. Math 095 and ENG 098 are non-credit classes. To obtain information about the ACT Residual Exam, please call (702) 895-3177.

Q: How often do you accept students into your program - once a year or twice?
A: Students are admitted into Pre-Nursing at any semester without a waiting list. Students are admitted from Pre-Nursing into Nursing three times per year (spring, summer and fall), when you are eligible.

Q: What is the percentage of passing scores on the NCLEX test?
A: The passing scores for the NCLEX test varies from semester to semester. The range has been from 84% to 100%.

Q: What is the average GPA that is admitted to the Nursing Program?
A: The average GPA varies from semester - a 3.0 is required to be admitted from Pre-Nursing into Nursing.
